Kennelwood’s Animal Observation Program allows participants to delve into the fundamentals of interpreting canine body language. Engage in interactive learning sessions including a unique animal observation game, featuring a dog body language Tic-Tac-Toe activity. Explore in-depth observation of a selected animal while also observing a training session with a Kennelwood professional dog trainer. As a bonus, participants will have the opportunity to discuss essential aspects of a healthy pet diet and collaborate in crafting treats as a collective endeavor. The session will conclude by demonstrating safe methods of offering treats and feeding dogs responsibly.

Explore the diverse needs of pets, ranging from veterinary care and vaccination routines to essential aspects of exercise, socialization, grooming practices, and effective training methodologies. Ensure your pet’s comfort by delving into various aspects such as exploring boarding setups, honing dog walking skills, and acquiring fundamental grooming techniques. Prioritize your pet’s health and safety through a focus on training and exercise, while implementing essential safety protocols for their well-being. Foster a strong bond with your pet by utilizing body language guides and engaging in regular interactions with them to enhance affection and understanding. Master the art of pet feeding by learning to administer treats safely and securely place food bowls for your pet’s well-being.

Indulge in the art of crafting savory delights as you prepare a potato mix and stuff Kongs for dogs, providing
both entertainment and satisfaction as you watch them enjoy their tasty treats. Create delectable peanut butter ball treats, specially crafted for your furry companions to enjoy. Learn how to boost your pet’s energy levels with nutritious snacks. Gain insights into protein-rich bases for dog foods, incorporating grains like corn and rice, alongside vegetable protein sources like peas, to ensure your pet’s vitality and well-being. Relish a refreshing liquid snack session by serving up chicken broth with no added salt, providing a delightful treat for your beloved canine companion to enjoy.
First Aid: Life Skills/Art
Juniors: Grades 4-5
Length: 1.5 Hours
Find out how to help pets when they’re ill or injured and learn how to respond during an emergency: Learn the first steps to take in an emergency – Take a deep breath, think about your resources, call for help and assess the pet from far away, then closer (with an adult). Experience conversations with our first responders. Meet our kennel staff and talk to someone who has helped in a pet emergency. Make a portable first aid kit for the dogs in the kennel. Learn how to choose correct and incorrect items to include in the kit. Learn how to handle urgent first aid issues such as learn the pet choking procedure, watch CPR demo and participate in a CPR simulation. Know how to take care of a pet who’s sick. Discuss how to assess a healthy pet, learn what to look for in a pet that is not healthy. Learn and know the locations of the nearest emergency vet clinics and also know your pet’s regular veterinarian’s information.
Animal Helper: STEM
Cadettes: Grades 6-8
Length: 1.5 Hours
Discover how animals help people & how you can help animals in return. Explore the connection between humans & animals – Learn how we made different breeds from the wolf to serve certain human needs. Find out how animals keep people safe. Discover working breeds that keep people safe by tracking, protection, coaching dogs, St. Bernards, sniff out cancer, police dogs, airport security dogs. Find out how animals help people emotionally. Learn how dogs help people through search and rescue, companionship for elderly or service members, hospital visits/therapy, reading programs for kids. Find out how animals perform tasks for people with disabilities such as seeing eye dogs, hearing dogs, physical support, and medical alert dogs. Explore how dogs can retrieve objects & perform basic tasks like turning on & off lights. Help people learn about training, grooming, & exercising their pet. Educate people about picking the right dog for their family’s lifestyle.
Voice for Animals: Outdoors/Citizenship/Life Skills
Seniors: Grades 9-10
Length: 1.5 Hours
Discover the relationship between animals & humans so you can make informed choices and help others too. Explore how dogs help people through rescue, companionship, medical care, protection, police dogs, & other working dog skills. Explore how animals aid in scientific research and discovery. Students will look into pet food testing and basic information about Purina. Learn about animals in husbandry. Explore how different breeds evolved over time and what strengths & qualities certain breeds possess. Look into how animals participate in sports & entertainment & observe a training demonstration. Explore animal involvement in movies & TV, racing, and other physical competitions. Discover common challenges that animals face to combat return to the shelter & how to prevent behavioral issues. Learn how we work with rescue pets to find a suitable home, utilizing our pet matchmaker services. Students will explore what breed of dog would fit their lifestyle best.
