The German Pinscher is an endangered breed, listed in category III of the Rote Liste of the Gesellschaft zur Erhaltung alter und gefährdeter Haustierrassen. Part of the origins of several newer breeds, like the Affenpinscher, all schnauzers and, of course, the Doberman Pinscher and Miniature Pinscher.
