| The Pet Matchmaker's Story of Mimi | Growing up, we always had pets in the house and everyone in our family had their own responsibility in caring for our pets. Finally, when I was old enough, my dad gave me my very own pet. She was a small Miniature Poodle. I named her Mimi. Actually, her full name was Mimi Nicole Calabini. Mimi was a beautiful black poodle with a light streak of hair on one of her ears. She went everywhere with me, we were best friends. We went camping, on car rides and since she was so small, I could even sneak her in places while I shopped or watched a movie! Over the years, Mimi and I grew up together.
One tragic day, Mimi got out of the yard and ran away. My husband and I looked everywhere for her. We talked to people on the street asking them if they had seen her and we were always just a few seconds behind her. We did not have cell phones at this time, so we decided one of us should go home in case someone found her and called. So, I went home and waited for the call, while my husband continued searching.
While at home, a police officer parked in front of our house and got out of the car. I saw that she had Mimi’s collar in her hand. I was so happy. I thought she had my dog in the car and she was just verifying ownership. The police officer asked my name and if my dog was missing. This had to be good news; she had her collar and was bringing her home! But the officer explained that Mimi had been hit by a car and had died.
I was heart broken. I still think about Mimi and how hurt I was when I lost her. Every time someone tells me about a missing pet, I always hope there is some way I can help. | Back to All News
