FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 10, 2009 CONTACT: Sarah Drew, Public Relations and Brand Manager, 314-446-1021
June 10, 2009 (St. Louis, MO ) Simon and Jane were among many of the dogs that Rene Hollis, of Kennelwood Pet Resorts, groomed last week. However, these two beautiful black Labradors are particularly special since each will soon be placed with a physically disabled person through the Assistance Dog program at Support Dogs, Inc. which is a national not-for-profit organization providing highly skilled service dogs to individuals with disabilities, and uniquely trained therapy teams in the community, offering, dignity, hope, and independence to those they serve.
Simon and Jane are among eight purebred Labradors that will soon be part of Team Training at Support Dogs headquarters located near Kennelwood in the Westport area. Each dog is selected by Support Dogs based on temperament and pedigree going back three generations to ensure each puppy will be accepted into the Assistance Dog training program. Simon and Jane were each raised by a Volunteer Puppy Raiser and recently completed Advanced Training leading them to the next big step of being placed with a client. Kennelwood is thrilled to have the opportunity to help Support Dogs with this next big step. Since the upcoming Team Training is going to be very large, Support Dogs volunteer Rene Hollis arranged with Kennelwood an opportunity to bath and groom all eight dogs at one time. This was the most efficient way to prepare each dog for the upcoming team training. Kennelwood’s goal is to impart upon the public, as well as the new Support Dogs client teams, the importance of good bathing and grooming habits for all dogs.
Kennelwood and Support Dogs have been able to work together on many projects in the past. Support Dogs is thrilled to have Rene on board as a volunteer groomer. “She does a fabulous job! It’s a special thing for Support Dogs and the people who need these dogs to have such an experienced groomer volunteer her grooming skills,” says Nadine Wenig, advanced trainer for Support Dogs. Kennelwood is very happy to give a helping paw where a helping paw is needed!
