FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 1, 2007 CONTACT: Sarah Drew, Brand Development Coordinator, 314-446-1021
From pioneering commercial pet food in 1894 to becoming a leader in pet care, the Danforth Family legacy is a story of commitment, knowledge, experience, and passion for the care of pets. In 1894, William H. Danforth founded Ralston Purina Company, a company that would become the world’s largest producer of both moist and dry cat and dog foods. Donald Danforth succeeded his father as president and chairman of the Board of Ralston Purina Company, guiding the company to greater success. His son, Donald Danforth Jr. continued the legacy, taking the position as Executive Vice President of Ralston. Just as William H. Danforth first saw a need for commercial pet food, Donald Danforth Jr. recognized a need for a professionally run, full-service boarding, grooming, and training pet facility and in 1974 opened Kennelwood Village. Kennelwood Village quickly met with success and has been instrumental in the development of the pet suites, board and train and SHED-X® Treatments, a professional anti-shedding procedure. Five more Kennelwood Villages locations would be added throughout the St. Louis area, making Kennelwood the largest boarding, grooming and training facility in the Midwest. On a full weekend, Kennelwood can board in excess of 700 pets. Fulfilling his father’s vision, Chris Danforth has expanded and repositioned Kennelwood Village bringing it into the 21st century with a “New Look, and the Same Love,” says Danforth. Chris has reinvented the overall brand image, including renaming Kennelwood Village to Kennelwood Pet Resorts. With the repositioning, Chris is fulfilling his father’s desire to offer professional pet services to the industry, nationwide. “In terms of franchising, we are confident our new company name and logo will become a recognizable symbol, representing excellence in pet care.” “We are excited to reaffirm ourselves to local customers and identify Kennelwood as a market leader to people in other cities with our franchising efforts. I know my father would be proud of the changes and improvements we are implementing,” said Danforth.
