Simply call during normal business hours and let us know. A cancellation fee of $25.00-$50.00 will be charged on all reservations not cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival. How soon prior to my vacation should I make my pet’s reservation? If you know your travel dates in advance, make your pet’s reservation as soon as possible. This is especially important in the summer months and any holiday period during the year, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. We can hold a room for your pet with a credit card number or deposit. And if we are booked during your needed dates, ask to be put on our waiting list. There may be a cancellation and we can call to inform you of the vacant room. How often are the rooms cleaned? Our housekeeping staff monitors all rooms to make sure your pet’s accommodations are clean and sanitary. If your pet does have an “accident” in their room, it will be promptly cleaned. What if my pet gets sick when I’m gone? Don’t worry. We will have already entered your vet information and emergency contact information into our computer system at check-in, so if necessary, we will take your pet to your family vet. In an emergency situation, we will take your pet to the closest vet possible. How often will my pet be fed? Pets are fed according to your specific instructions and a dish with fresh water is always available in your pet’s room. My pet will eat anything! Do you provide food at Kennelwood? Yes. We have a variety of foods to choose from if your pet is not picky or on a special diet. Just let our customer service rep know your pet will be eating our food. My pet is on a special diet. Can I bring special food? Yes. We understand not all pets eat the same type of food, so we are happy to feed your pet any food required. Just bring in the proper amount for the length of your pet’s vacation. Can you give my pet medicine or a shot? Yes. Bring your pet’s required medication with you and inform the customer service representative during check-in. They will ask you to fill out a Medication Form specifying the dosage and other instructions needed. A fee of $1.00 to $5.00 will be charged. When is check-out? Check-out time is 12:00 noon. A full day’s charges are applied on the day your pet checks in. A full day of boarding charges are due after 12:00 noon each day your pet in is the hotel. Can you housebreak my dog while at your Pet Resort? For true housebreaking to take place, it has to be learned in your home environment. For that we provide lessons, either in-home or at a Kennelwood location to fine tune your housebreaking program at home. We also provide support in the way of follow-up phone calls or more lessons. When at your facilities, what does my dog do when not being trained? Your dog is resting in a quiet place at our location. Water is available, along with outside breaks and any treats or toys you provide. Most dogs need some down time to let a training session sink in and be truly retained in their memory. Quiet time is as important to the training process as the work session is. How much time is spent with my dog for training? Training is task dependent, not time dependent. This means the trainer will work with your dog to teach the commands and use whatever time that takes for each exercise. In general, dogs learn much better in 15 to 20 minute intervals spread throughout the day. Working longer than that can be counter-productive. Will my dog retain the things learned when he gets home? Absolutely! The trainer will go over what your dog learned and give you things to continue to do at home to keep your dog’s learning fresh. The great thing is that the trainer has done the hard part for you – teaching the dog. Now all you have to do is reinforce the behaviors when you get home. Why would I want to drop my dog off for training? We have professional trainers who can train your dog for you. They work with your pet to solve problem behaviors and to teach basic and advanced obedience exercises. You don’t need to be an expert in behavior modification to have a well-behaved dog. This method of training is also a good choice if you have little time to spend in class with your dog. What if my dog is an “Obedience School Drop-out?” We never have a dog “fail” class. If you practice with your dog, you will see changes in behavior. The age of the dog, the breed and energy level, and the family dynamics can all affect your dog’s progress. Just as with humans, learning is an on-going process. We have many clients who repeat classes for fun or to give the dog more exposure to other dogs and people. We also have many different levels of classes to suit your dog’s needs. Does just one person in my family work with the dog? No. You can and should work together or trade turns working the dog in class, depending on the exercise being done. Can I bring my family to the dog training classes? Yes! We encourage everyone in the family to come and participate in the class. Children old enough to participate in the one hour class without disturbing other clients are welcome to attend. What if I have to miss a dog training class? You can call the Kennelwood Training Department at 314-446-1025 to schedule a make-up class. If we need to cancel class due to weather or some other emergency, you will be contacted before class. What do I need to bring to dog training class? A 6 foot leash, some yummy treats and your dog is all you need to start your class. The instructor will let you know what other equipment or supplies you will need. What kind of shots does my dog/puppy need? Puppies: two Distemper series (DHLPP) and the Bordetella inoculation.
Adult dogs, 5 months and older: current Rabies inoculation, DHLPP, and a Bordetella vaccine. What if my dog is too out of control to come to class? Our instructors are trained to handle many different dog temperaments in a class situation. Most dogs get excited the first day of class, however, most will settle down with a little guidance. And really, that’s what the class is for! Can I work with more than one pet in a training session? Absolutely. A lot of training can be directed at more than one dog or problem. Control can be lost when you own more than one dog, or dogs and cats, and we encourage a group approach to many behavior problems. Then if one dog has issues that are special just to him, we can work with that dog separately. That is the advantage of private lessons, we can tailor them to fit your individual needs. Do you just train dogs? No. We work with cats, too. Cats can be trained and behavior problems can be solved with the help of one of our Pet Nannies. Cats do not adjust well to changes in their environment, so we recommend an in-home visit to work with your cat. Do I have to make an appointment for Doggie DayCamp? As long as we have all your information including shots, and you have signed a DayCamp contract, they you can come in whenever you like. Will I get to see my pet play at Doggie DayCamp? There is a change you could see them play, but it depends on which area they are playing in, as not all play areas are visible. How long does my dog get to play at Doggie DayCamp? DayCamp is an activity that lasts 4 hours broken into several sessions. I am a dog breeder. How do I get on your Breeder Referral Program? Call 314-446-1011 or email petmatchmaker@kennelwood.com. I’ll ask you a few questions and send you an application. Once completed and mailed to me we can discuss your criteria and background for joining our Breeder Referral Program. What are the vaccination requirements for your Pet Resorts and boarding? For the health and safety of our guests, all cats and dogs must be properly vaccinated 72 hours prior with the following:Dogs: Rabies, DHLPP and BordetellaCats: Rabies, Feline Distemper, Rhinotracheitis and CaliciProof of current vaccinations is required. Please ask your veterinarian for a copy of your pet’s records and present them during check-in. What will be in my pet’s room if I board my pet with you? Rooms are individually decorated, complete with a toddler bed and satellite TV for Animal Planet viewing. A “just like home” atmosphere! If my dog’s room has no outside access, where will they go potty? Your pet will be appointed a personal valet who will take them outside for a potty break 3-5 times per day. The area is enclosed for your pet’s protection and is perfectly safe. When boarding my pet, can I bring toys or a blanket from home? Yes! We know your pet has a favorite toy or blanket that he or she just can’t live without. It’s the small touches from home that will make your pet (and you!) feel much more comfortable. For pets vacationing in our Standard Accommodations at our Page and Lindbergh Pet Resort, we are happy to provide blankets or comfort pads.
